Pulau Pangkor, Malaysia

Pulau Pangkor is an island off the coast of Perak in north-west peninsular Malaysia. It has a land area of only 8 square kilometers, and a population of approximately 25,000 islanders. It is heavily promoted as a low-key tourist destination by the Malaysian government, but fishing and fish products remain major industries.

The name Pangkor is said to be originated from the Thai word Pang Ko which means 'beautiful island'. Others believe it may be a memorial to Pang Kui, a legendary Chinese adventurer said to have lent his skills in seamanship to the bands of pirates this island once sheltered.

Besides, it is a thriving tourist attraction with wonderful offerings of its pristine beaches on the western coastline. Among the popular beaches are Pantai Puteri Dewi (Golden Sands Beach), Pasir Bogak Beach, Teluk Nupah, Pulau Sembilan and Pangkor Laut.

Pulau Perhentian, Malaysia

Pulau Perhentian is located in the South China Sea 21 km from the coast of Kuala Besut, Terengganut. It comprises of two islands; Pulau Perhentian Besar and Pulau Perhentian Kecil. Both islands are surrounded by beautiful palm-fringed powdery white sandy beaches and crystal-clear turquoise-blue sea.

The two Perhentian Islands are rated as some of the most beautiful islands in the world; a virtual paradise for snorkelling and diving in crystal-clear water or just for lazing on one of the white sandy beaches waiting for the coconuts to drop.

The two main islands are heavily forested and ringed with sandy beaches, typical of tropical islands. Both islands are separated by a very narrow sound but with strong current. The significant different between the two islands is, Perhentian Besar is more for a vocational island while the small one is an island with the mixture of vacation mood and reality life due to the fishing village.

All manner of aquatic life is visible both near and far from the beach such as turtles, sharks, coral and thousands of tropical fish. The interior is covered by jungle with a wide variety of species. You can watch monitor lizards, monkeys, geckos, flying squirrels, butterflies and many other types - sometimes right in front of your chalet. There are no roads and not many paths, so the islands are mainly peaceful and untouched - so far.

Phuket, Thailand

Phuket, is Thailand's largest island. It is 48 km in length, 21 km at it’s widest, and is in Southern Thailand, on the west-facing Andaman Sea coastline.

Scuba diving, snorkeling, snuba, yachting, jet-skiing and parasailing are the most popular activities on the island.

Phuket's beaches share the same powdery sand, blue-green water, casuarina trees, palm trees and strutting mynah birds, yet each is unique and each satisfies a different kind of traveller.

Phuket's best beaches are along the west coast where the yearly pounding from the rainy season waves has created beautiful bays with golden powdery sand. Along the south and east coasts are stony beaches more suited to walking, shell collecting or relaxing in a restaurant and enjoying the view.
